AfroHair

This project is about designing African American hairstyles for role-playing video games. The models are developed in Blender, and these hairstyles have been incorporated into a style guide for game developers and African Americans to learn why our hair is unique. This project will help bring parity and diversity into role-playing video games.

Process

To start creating different hairstyles, a head model needed to be made; it would provide a good representation and demonstration to showcase different hairstyles.

I started in Blender with a sphere and sculpted it to become a head model. Next, I added important facial features like eyes, eyelashes, nose, mouth, and most importantly, hair. Later down the page, the coloring process started and began to incorporate lighting.

Deliverable

At the end of the project, I designed a Design Style Guide Booklet to showcase different hairstyles that could be options for African American hairstyles in role-playing games. The left features the cover of the process book, which details all the research and steps that I took to create the head models and the purpose of this project.
